Outskirts Of Appleby, North Lincolnshire

A couple weeks later, as soon as Nick got home from work, Rachel came dashing up to him.

"NICK! I have a surprise for you outside!" she said shouting with glee. Rachel tugged on his sleeve. "Come on!"

"Alright!" He laughed, following her and allowing himself to be tugged. "What's going on, Rachel dear?"

"LOOK!"

And outside, there was four chickens, and two roosters walking around the yard, exploring it and checking out their new surroundings.

"Isn't this nice?!"

He stared at them for a moment. "... What the hell are poultry doing here?"

Rachel, if anything, was smiling even more enthusiastically. "They're our chickens! Nick, we own twenty beautiful acres of land. We need to do something with it! And this is only the beginning! We're going to expand later, and begin to grow our own food! Isn't this nice?!"

Nick rubbed the back of his neck, thinking. "Alright, alright. That would be nice, I guess. I just thought you'd ask me, first."

"Well... I just thought you'd say no, that's all."

"What would make you think that?!"

Rachel shrugged. "Because you're Nick."

"Because I'm Nick?" He grinned playfully at her. "That's such a lame excuse!"

Rachel laughed. "Well, I couldn't think of any other excuse!" and she ran up, and smooched him. <3

Nick couldn't really argue with that logic. Besides, he was in a really good mood that day, so he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back.

Rachel laughed, and did a sort of twirl a sugar high five year old would do. "You're sure happy today!"

"You sure are, too!" he took her gently around the waist and spun her in a few circles. It was a cute, picturesque couple moment, even if it was punctuated by the cries of the chickens and the roosters as they flitted to and fro.

Rachel grinned up at him, a little bit out of spite. She was sure that none of her friends could ever be in a relationship as wonderful as her's. "Is it because Eric is working for you? He should come over some time."

"What? But we already don't have that much time alone as-is," he held her close. "If you say so, though..."

She looked at him with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Nah, who needs him? I'd rather have our alone time."

"Are you suuuure?" he teased her, a sly smile spreading across his face.

"Seriously. I'll kill you if you bring him home tonight. I don't want his mind to be soiled."

"Oh, really, now?" He slowly began walking with her towards the house.

"Really! Besides, this is a good day, anyway... I think I'm... well, you know."

"You're what?" he asked, taking her hands and leading her into the house and up the stairs. "C'mon, tell me! No more surprises!"

"I'll tell you afterward, I promise."

"Tell me now. I'm curious."

"No, just wait! It doesn't have to be a long time..."
