Some Staircase

As if on some sort of cue, Amanda walked past Olivia, then stopped to stand next her when she saw her friend. Amanda put her books down beside her, and put most of her weight on her elbows as she leaned onto the railing. "Hey Liv. How did your day go?" The tone of her voice sounded like she was hurt. The one class she had with Olivia, and she hadn't even sat with her. Amanda was experiencing whatever phenomenon that was going on as well.

Thoughts ran through her hea seconds after she said hello. Urgh. What if she didn't sit with me for a reason? What if that reason was because of what a jerky tone I took on at breakfast? No... because she did the same. Ugh. My one decent friendship and I screwed it up.

Olivia jumped slightly as her train of thought met a bitter end at a broken bridge. "Don't scare me, woman."

"...You didn't see me walking up to you?"

"No." She looked down, trying to spot the pair of underclassmen again, but it appeared that they had already moved on.

"Olivia, have you ever felt so terribly about something you could wipe it from your past?"

She thought for a moment. "Maybe."

Amanda sighed. "I just... found two old letters today that are a part of me I wished to forget."

"S'that so."

"A letter for Oliver and one from Tanner." Amanda cringed at borth names still. "...And I bet Wallace will soon be on that list." She said, directing her view back to the ground.

"Pessimist. Don't let me hear any of that."

"But, he hardly ever even talks to me."

"He's probably just busy."

"For an entire month?" Amanda said, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Olivia, he is putting off the break up."

"You were never official anyway!"

"...Yeah we were. We decided so at Hogsmeade!"

"Oh. Well... When's the next trip, anyway?"

"...I don't actually know."

"Sucks..." Olivia decided to change the subject. "Heard anything about the whole rise-of-you-know-who thing? I don't get the paper."

"Kidnapped muggleborns, murders, despressing business."

"Anything specific?"

"... Uh... He still hasn't caught Harry, and anyone who finds him gets a reward."

Olivia sighed. "There's gotta be something..."

"What are you looking for?"

"Something about the muggleborns?"

"A lot broke out a few weeks ago. Unknown minstry agents helped them escape."
