Small Cottage

Elroy kept on eating that sandwich.

Serenity started crying. Actually, they were just realistic crying noises. But still.

"Suck it up!"

"Why are you such a bastard?!"

"Those are crocodile tears!"

"They are not!"

Moments later, Elroy appeared in the door, still chomping away at that sandwich.

"W-well... Okay! So they're fake! What does it matter?"

He shrugged.

"Well then! I think you should skip church tomorrow. We could stay in all day long!"

"Can't. They'd have my head."

"You can't skip one time? That seems a little extreme." Serenity was pouting, batting her eyes, and clasping her hands together. "Pleeease?"

And with winter came spring, and with spring came summer. And thus law school was over.

Serenity came in the doors feeling amazing. She had just gotten off the train- more fun to take the ceremonial way home instead of apparating- then had just apparated to the island and to the front door. She took a couple of deep breaths, holding her degree, grinning from ear to ear. There had been no parties, no fun, no hot bisexual roommate.. It had been pure, unadulterated work. But she had done it, and law school was finally over. And all the new knowledge she had in her brain was just swimming around! She felt so ready to go out into the world. And work! She had already gotten a job offering as a summer associate at a law firm in London, and a couple of other meager offers, but she was sure once she got her application out there, things would get better. For Serenity Rosensteel, things were getting better.
She opened the door and went into the shack. Soon, she'd move out of here! Get her own place! Maybe take Elroy with her.. But who cared? She had her degree!
"Elroy!!"

And sitting on the counter was a ham and cheese on white on Serenity's favorite plate. There was a small note attached to the plastic wrap covering.

"He's not here?" Serenity said, slightly crestfallen. She went over to the sandwich and read the note while unwrapping it.

It was written crudely in permanent ink.

Serenity frowned, put the sandwich down, and went over to the couch. "A sandwich? Really?"

Then again, had Serenity ever known Elroy to go to great lengths to prepare a meal? He'd even suggested they just order pizza on Christmas day.

Serenity stared at the sandwich on the table. "Oh, what the hell? I'm hungry." She went over and ate it. "Cheap bastard! He didn't even put mayo on it!"

Alas!

Serenity, after turning on some I Love Lucy reruns, quickly fell asleep. In Elroy's chair! What a heinous crime.

Heinous indeed. She was abruptly awoken around six thirty via being pushed onto the floor.

Serenity stared up. "What the he- I just graduated! Let me sit in your chair, at least."

"Nope." Elroy loosened his tie and slumped down in his chair. "Thanks for keeping it warm, though."
