Small Cottage

"You sure? Because, well, I was thinking. If you had AIDS and died on our wedding day my life would be like an endless circle of hell and I'd never get out and kill myself tragically after going all homocidal and killing a pig. So, are you sur.." Serenity stopped. "Sorry. I just realized how crazy I just sounded."

Elroy stared at Serenity as though she was some sort of raving retard. Olivia was holding back her laughter. To divert her attention, she backed up enough to be able to see the wall clock hanging in the kitchen. It had already been an hour, much longer than she'd intended to stay. "Crap..." And without giving a thought to how rude she was being by leaving so suddenly, she apparated away.

Serenity stared at the spot Liv had just been in, then back to Elroy. She laughed. "Well, that was interesting.."

Elroy was going to ask where Serenity had even pulled that idea from in the first place, but then he remembered that it was Serenity.

"Well then. What do you think is to be done about our wedding? Where at? Decorations? Would you rather me handle it?"

"You handle it."

"Okay.." Serenity whistled. "So. What do you think of Olivia?"

He settled back into his napping posture. "Gained weight."

"Alright. I'm going to do some shopping. Goodbye." She went and apparated off.

Serenity appeared back in the cottage with a crack and sat down on the couch, getting a headache.

Elroy was up and about by then. In fact, he was preparing their Christmas dinner. That was his gift to her. "How was shopping?" was the first thing out of his mouth.

Serenity, not good at lying, stared at him blankly for a moment. "Oh, right. I was shopping. It was, uh, good. I didn't buy anything, though." She winced- the lie was crystal clear. She never, ever shopped without buying anything.

Let alone that it was Christmas, and thus there would be no reason to go shopping. And no stores were open. "Oh?"

"Yeah. Um, I went in Dooney and Burkes, but the scarves were way out of my-- Shit. It's Christmas."

"Good job!" he exclaimed, stabbing the thermometer into the breast of the chicken.

"Don't be an ass. I was visiting Angel."

He put the chicken in the oven. "Thought we agreed we wouldn't."

"It's Christmas. I wanted to tell him we were getting married. It didn't work out so well."

"You're an idiot."

Serenity didn't answer, she just frowned at Elroy, sort of glaring at him.

"You could've at least considered what could have happened." He set the timer.

"I really honestly don't care. I just-- It was stupid, okay, I get it."

"I hope so."

"Just drop it, okay. You don't own me, I'll visit whoever I want."

Uncomfortably long pause. "What did he say?"
