"I hate you."

Boris grinned. "See? You really DO care for people. So instead of wasting yourself away, why don't you think of those poor people in Africa."

"Africa? Fuck that, there's enough here. Besides, the problem with Africa is that there's no way to get the food to them without it spoiling or without upsetting their systems and all that cal."

"Yes, but if we conserve money, and donate it to them or something, it'll help them get food."

"I don't trust charities."

"Then we should go ourselves."

Olivia looked appalled. "No way!"

Boris shrugged. "Dinner's ready."

"I hate you," she repeated.

He ignored her, still smiling, glad that he managed to bring up a point. He set the plates of warm steaming rice in front of them, and sat down.

Olivia swirled the rice around the plate allowing the steam to escape from the small spaces between the grains.

And then another fine day Olivia stepped through the door again, having successfully escaped her "house arrest". She wore a massive grin on her face and carried a spring in her step. "Yo!"

Boris looked at her. "Yes?"

Olivia headed straight for the kitchen and grabbed a carton of milk from the fridge. "I got a job."

He dropped whatever he was holding in his hands- for this case, a pear. It toppled to the ground with a dull thunk, and Boris just stood there staring at Olivia. His hair was still a bit messy, so when he raised his eyebrows and dropped his head down a tiny bit to stare at her in shock, it fell forwards a bit. "Really?!"

"Yes-sir." She took a long drink straight from the carton. "Flower arranging, something like that." Another.

"Really, for what?"

"Four an hour. Not too shabby."

"Not at all, not at all." he said nodding slowly. "Any jobs today?"

"Oh, no, I start tomorrow." After polishing off about half the carton, Olivia closed it up and returned it to its shelf.

He nodded slowly. "Cool. How much per hour?"

"Just answered that. Four."

"Four dollars?"

"Pounds!" She frowned. "Are you high or something?"

"So six dollars?"
