"Guess what time it is? Naptime. Goodnight." She climbed up onto the end of his bed from the floor, curling up and falling asleep.






And somewhere in a dry, hot, cornfield, Stephanie did the same in her parents' room, too tired to walk down the hall and to the left, up the stairs and through the aviary.

"Good afternoon, you mean."

Serenity yawned, nodding. "Yeah. Afternoon."

Angel looked over his book at Serenity for a moment, contemplating whether he should -- or could -- lie down next to her, just to see what it was like. But, of course, being who he is, he decided against it, and looked at the page again.

Serenity was having a dream.
She was at the convenience store, buying an egg, then the whole wide world got eaten by aliens.
And then her dream moved on to happyflowerland, where Serenity rolled around in the tall flowers.

Serenity made a weird noise in her sleep, something like One egg please, then sighed when her dream moved on to flowerland.

Angel ignored it and kept reading.

Right on the twenty minute mark, Serenity's eyes snapped open and she sat up, stretching. "Morning," she said, yawning widely.

"It's two twenty-six. Not even an hour."

"I nap for twenty minutes, no more or less. I fell asleep at six past two. I woke up at two twenty six. Have you finished the book?"

"No. I'm on chapter 24, though."
