Amanda's New Apartment

Amanda let out a laugh, she was wasn't used to being limited to three syllable words. In college, it seemed the smarter you sounded the more respect you got.

"I don't 'ave a cawl-ledge d'gray, miss," Olivia teased. "Are you over it yet?"

"Yeah, of course I'm over that hill bill'ay gold pik'ah." Amanda was trying to talk in the silly, stupid tone Olivia did in an attempt to change the conversation.

She smiled. "Well, good for you. Would've thunk you'd be bawling your little heart out."

"I'da thunk I'd be weeping. But I ain't."

Olivia had stopped the accent after the first instance. "Ain't?"

"I'm not."

"Oh. Well..." She thought for a moment for something else to talk about. Ding. "Oh! I got a job."

"That's great! Where?"

"Some flower shop. I hate plants, but the pay's alright."

"Well, good for you! We all start somewhere." Amanda regretted saying that, she thought it made her sound snobby, as if she was looking down at Olivia.

Of course, Amanda was looking down at Olivia. But in a way that's rather irrelevant to this discussion. "I guess so. It's a step up from eating rats, for sure!" she said with a laugh.

Amanda laughed along, very awkwardly.

Olivia's laugh died off after a while. A rather awkward death, like Elvis's. "So, other than that... everything's good." It was difficult to determine if that last statement was inquisitive.

Amanda smiled. "Great!" A certain cat who knew Olivia hated her rubbed up against Olivia's legs.

Olivia yelped and lightly stepped away. She hadn't expected that. "Damned vermin."

Amanda sighed. "Why do you hate cats so much?"

Olivia had a nasty flashback about a cat biting the snot out of her hand once. "What did you say?"

"Never mind. Want anything to eat?"

"Nah, I'm good..."

"So... no hint of where you are living?"

Olivia shifted her weight to her other foot, looking over at one of the cupboards. "Where's that wine you mentioned?"

"Oh! It's right here." As Amanda went digging through the cupboard directly behind her, she wondered out loud, "Y'know, I didn't see a drop of beer at any of the parties? Surprisingly classy." Amanda put the wine down on the table, and turned to Olivia with a curious look on her face. "What does that stuff even taste like?"

Happy Christmas, New Year, all those tidings of joy and that. I drew you a picture on the back as your present. It's an orchid. Enjoy.

I think I've got an aneurysm ready to pop. Been feeling unusually light-headed. That or I'm still hungover from yesterday. If it IS an aneurysm, though, you can have whatever stuff of mine you want. It's mostly clothes that would probably be way too small for you. Maybe you could give them to some of your minimandas or something. Tell them about that one stain on that seafoam blouse of mine. How it got there and all. Once they're old enough, of course. Good times, good times. Nonetheless, terribly light-headed, blood rushing around, it's miserable. Send cough drops with reply. That sounds nice. The strawberry ones with that odd little tang to them.

How have you been? Writing those novels? Cranking out the next great masterpiece of this century? Maybe something about vampires; you'd have experience with that, right?
