Small Cottage

"Are you sure?" Serenity asked. "The clock's only about seven feet away from here."

"Yeah, it's fine."

"Alright, then." She closed her eyes, smiling, and started humming a happy jingle. "How's work?"

"Hey, I was thinking... Maybe we could eat out tonight?"

"Yes! Let's. Where do you want to go?"

"There's this little seafood place down by the pier. They're pretty good."

"Okay, just let me get dressed." Serenity ran into her room, and came out about five minutes later, wearing a green sweatshirt, a striped tanktop underneath, and jeans. Her hair was still wet, and in a ponytail, and she wasn't wearing any makeup. "Ready!"

"I-I didn't mean now, I meant for dinner."

"Oh.. Sorry. I got a little excited, I suppose. Oh well, no difference between clothes and a towel."

Elroy shrugged. Damn, his eyesight really WAS getting bad.

Serenity really did seem concerned. He didn't seem to care what she was wearing, he couldn't see the time.. "How many fingers am I holding up?" She asked from across the room.

He squinted. "... Three."

"No. Five. We're going to the eye doctor's. Now, preferably."

"No way!"

"You're only going to make it worse, not getting the treatment for it! And you don't have to get glasses. You could get contacts. Now get up, now. We'll go before dinner."

"You need an appointment, right?"

"Not at the cheaper places. Plus, it's a Wednesday night, they're not going to be completely booked up. I'll call ahead. Get ready to go." Serenity snapped, picking up the phonebook and dialing the eye place's number.

The door was unlocked, then opened. Serenity burst through, immediately taking out her ponytail, which was starting to hurt.
"I don't see why it's such a big deal! They're just glasses, Elroy. It's not like they're taking away manliness, or disabling you to have kids. You need them!" She was saying, before she took off her sweatshirt and sat down in his usual chair. It was much more comfortable than the other sofa in the shack. She wondered why she didn't sit here more often.

Elroy supposed he'd take the couch, then. So, he did. "I do not!"

"You do too! You can't see properly. And if you can't see properly, that means you can't see me properly. And that's a problem!" There was Serenity, conceited as always. "By the way, are we properly dating yet?"

"May as well be."

Serenity smiled, and curled up, hugging her knees. She didn't really know what to say, she just turned on the television. "So.. What's your favorite color?"

"Stop talking."

Serenity stopped. She also stopped smiling, and just sat there, looking rather grumpy.

It was a couple of days later, and Serenity was standing near the door, with a couple of bags, filled with her law books and a bit more clothes. "Bye, Elroy. See you at Christmas." She said, smiling fondly.
