Defense Against the Dark Arts

"YES!" Kelsi nodded eagerly with her eyes shining. It was suddenly quiet, considering they were both yelling excuses from the top of their heads.

". . . Detention. :3"

"Geez," mumbled Rachel. "They should have just told the truth."

Libby stood, and went over to her desk, slowly, and sat down. First class of the first day, and detention. It was a new record.

And then they both sat down. And the rest of the class continued.


"By the OWL tests, you will have completed your textbook. You will have memorized each lesson within ministry-approved limitations. I will assign a quiz for Friday. Memorize the simplified text of your Course Aims, and now that this class has settled down, continue reading the first chapter in your textbook. Girls, write down what's on the board." Professor Umbridge sat down at the back of her desk with some wide pissed-off smile plastered on her face.

Rachel just pretty much stared blankly at the first page of the textbook.

Libby wrote down what was on the board, and supported her cheek on her fist, reading the first chapter of the textbook.

On the other hand, Max closed the book, and set it aside, and said rather loudly without realizing it. "This is stupid, what is this going to teach us?"

"Pssst." Olivia tapped Rachel on the shoulder.

"What?" whispered Rachel.

"It's like they don't care that she's the teacher. o_o"

"Well, common, I mean look at her, she can hardly control the class. You can't respect a woman like that."

"Yeah, but she's even from the ministry. The Ministry, Sarah."

"Who's Sarah? But, I do agree, you have a good point. These kids could actually get into trouble, besides detention trouble."

"Exactly. And, sorry, you kinda look like a Sarah is all."

"Well, you look like.... oh yeah, you're an Olivia, huh?"

"Why yes, yes I am."

"QUIET!" she yelled shrilly.
"This is a quiet work period, and if anybody- ANYBODY! Mutters another word, I will send them to the Headmaster's office!" And then she did another one of those polite yet pissed-off smiles.


Kelsi ducked her head behind the textbook and read word-by-word. Only, she wasn't really paying attention to what she was reading. This professor was creepy.

Rachel than shut up, not saying anything.

Amanda, during most of this, had been gazing off into space. Whispering at air she began, "...Aha! Optismisum doesn't work... Wish for a good teacher think it's true, we have THIS toad."

Under her breath Amanda added, "Sketchball."** Then began to glare at the textbook.

**Me and my friend were just downt the street at her house and the gardeners came but they were there the other day and weren't suppose to come nd we look at each other and I screech "SKETCHBALL" And it seems a good RP Amanda word so...

Olivia flipped through the textbook. "Aww, no pictures..."

Libby skimmed over the words in her book, not really paying attention.

After thirty minutes of a particularly awkward and quiet class, the bell rang.


Kelsi closed her textbook and thrust it into her bag. She pulled out a binder and opened it in the DADA section behind the divider, and placed the note-sheet in it. Then she placed the huge binder back in her bag along with her ink and quill. Kelsi stood up and swung her bag around her shoulder.
"Hopefully in transfiguration we'll do something worthy. . ." she mumbled and made her way to the door.


"The two young girls who were late and got detention will arrive at my room tonight at ten minutes before seven sharp."

Libby haphazardly threw her supplies in her bag, closed it, and followed Kelsi out of the door. "Can you believe it? First class of the first day and we get detention," she mumbled angrily.

Amanda looked up and her a meow. She got all freaked out thinking Pinkie had walked in or maybe one of Serenity's cats. But no, it was coming from Proffesor Sketchball's office. Maybe she's holding an animugus in there? Or maybe I should stop thinking up crazy ideas and just read? Amanda sighed, slipping her attention, or at least her eyes, back to the book.

Amanda smiled when class finished and then said hoping she wasn't heard over the others, "Sketchball!" Then ran out the door.

"I know. Charms is next on the list. Then Potions. Then Herbology. Then Transfiguration. And. . ." Kelsi stopped there and looked at Libby.
"Didn't the others speak out after she told us to shut up? Why didn't THEY get anything?"
